Crisis in Greek Archaeology Meeting – London | April 24

Crisis in Greek Archaeology • Stop the Cuts • Restore Democracy

6.30pm, Tuesday 24 April
Room 612, Institute of Archaeology, Gordon Square, London
Despina Koutsoumba and Fotios Georgiadis
Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Civil Servants Union
Tansy Hoskins, Greece Solidarity Campaign
Chair: Gabriel Moshenska, Institute of Archaeology

Greek archaeological heritage is in danger. Greek archaeological services are being destroyed by austerity cuts. These cuts are being imposed by an unelected government at the behest of the ‘Troika’ – the IMF, the EU, and the ECB – in the interests of the international banks.

Greek archaeologists Despina Koutsoumba and Fotios Georgiadis will outline the crisis. Tansy Hoskins will introduce the Greek solidarity film made earlier this year by the Coalition of Resistance. The meeting will then be open for full discussion of the crisis, the implications, and alternatives.

This meeting has been called by archaeologists active in the Coalition of Resistance (www.coalitionofresistance.org) and the Greece Solidarity Campaign (website under construction) in response to the International Appeal of the Association of Greek Archaeologists (www.sea.org.gr).
